The Viroqua area has some of the best fishing and hunting a sportsperson
could ask for. With 250 miles of classified trout water and 63 spring
creeks, Vernon county is as good as it gets. But don’t stop there: the
mighty Mississippi River is a short and scenic 20 mile drive from Viroqua.
With walleye, bass, northern pike, pan fish, and much more just waiting to
be caught, this area is truly an outdoor recreation haven. In addition to
fishing, deer and turkey hunting are quite popular. The site of the first turkey
transplant in Wisconsin in 1983, turkeys have grown into large huntable
populations. Trophy-sized deer with excellent populations abound in Viroqua,
and public land is available for hunting. As referred to in the 2008 November
issue of Outdoor Life magazine, Vernon County is “An overlooked county in
the midwest that is a trophy factory” and “very good bets for a trophy buck”.
